Our story

About BIRA Care Homes

A family-run group of care homes across South Wales and Herefordshire, built on a promise that the details matter.

Real homes, built on family values

BIRA Care Homes was founded in 2011 on a simple but powerful belief: that those who have given so much to society deserve to spend their later years surrounded by dignity, comfort and true belonging.

What began as a single home in Newport has grown into seven homes — in Newport, Abergavenny, Skewen, Swansea, Beaufort and near Hereford — providing residential, nursing, dementia, respite and palliative care for older people across the region. And we continue to grow.

For over fourteen years we have built our homes on family values, treating every resident as one of our own — creating not institutions, but real homes filled with warmth, compassion and harmony. Every home is regulated and inspected by Care Inspectorate Wales, or the Care Quality Commission in England, and independently reviewed by families on carehome.co.uk, where the group scores 9.6 out of 10.

Our values

Five values guide everything we do — from the care at the bedside to the way our teams support one another.

Residents first

We place residents at the heart of every decision, creating a home where dignity, compassion and joy thrive.

One team, working together

We succeed through unity — building strength, trust and support by working together.

Data-driven excellence

We capture truth with accuracy, turning insight into action and action into excellence.

Growing every day

We embrace learning and growth, developing our skills and potential to become better every day.

Supportive leadership

We believe in leadership that supports, equips and lifts colleagues to achieve their full potential.
